Le futur de la recherche

Microsoft avait il y a quelques temps lancé un appel à projets baptisé : "Accelerating Search en Academic Research." Les lauréats sont désormais connus et leur recherche sera financée par la firme de Redmond. Dans cet ensemble figurent probablement quelques-unes des futures innovations majeures de nos chers moteurs ... à vous de choisir ... moi j'ai une petite faiblesse pour :

• VISP : l'objectif étant de "visualize the interaction between user behavior, distribution of content, and search engine ranking. In particular, we will be analyzing the completeness of the information retrieved by the search engine user, an important factor, for example, when the query is health related. We will extract the most common health-related queries and use both human experts and natural language processing to identify key facts located on the Web pages returned by the search engine. We will then correlate the search engine ranking with the completeness of information on the page. Our main goal is to develop a visualization tool that will show the distribution of information among the search results, the links between the results and the user click-throughs."
• la classification à facette (remember Google Base ...)
• la catégorisation "à l'envers", c'est à dire non pas du générique vers du spécifique mais à partir de termes spécifiques retrouver automatiquement les termes génériques permettant de mieux "adresser" les requêtes.
• la lutte contre le spam par l'accroissement des mesures "d'autorité" : "measures of trust and distrust to improve estimates of Web page and site authority, reducing or eliminating the effect of Web spam in the process"

A suivre ... Un suivi facilité par l'attitude de MSN en la matière : "The results of the research we’re funding are intended to be totally open to the public. We’re encouraging the awardees to publish what they find in peer reviewed journals and at conferences. Nothing about this is proprietary. It’s our gift back to the research community" :-)
